Rasulullah s.a.w pernah mengungkapkan keutamaan amal jariah di antara semua jenis kebajikan, iaitu pahalanya tetap mengalir walaupun orang yang melakukannya telah tiada (wafat). Sabda Rasulullah s.a.w yang bermaksud: 

“Apabila meninggal anak cucu Adam (manusia), maka terputuslah amalnya kecuali tiga hal sahaja iaitu sedekah jariah, ilmu yang diambil manfaatnya oleh manusia, dan anak yang soleh yang berdoa untuknya.” (Riwayat Ahmad).
